Cleansing Poison Ivy Exposed Skin

Poison Ivy oil reacts quickly and can waterjet fabrics be easily be absorbed by the skin. That is why, when the skin has been exposed, it is a must to have it cleansed and treated within ten minutes from exposure to prevent urushiol oil from further skin penetration cleansing cloth. Such oil, when absorbed by the skin causes bigger rashes and swelling, apart from the irritating itchy feeling. There are commercial products available that can be used to clean the infected area such as poison ivy cleanse towelettes or scrubs. There are also cleansing soaps wet tissues or foams that can help in washing out the oil especially when rashes are beginning to swell. But if you're at home and have no to time to buy these products, then follow the steps below in cleansing poison ivy infected skin:1. Clean the exposed area with isopropyl alcohol wet towel. Be careful not to spread the oil further by touching only the infected part. Cover the non-infected skin if you must. Put alcohol on a clean cloth and wipe the exposed area. DO NOT rub the skin. Dispose the cleansing counter cloth cloth immediately. Alternatively, if alcohol is not available, you may use vinegar. Vinegar's acid content makes it effective in cleansing poison ivy oil out of the skin.2. The exposed area must be washed with water alone. At this point, since soap contains chemicals that counter-attack oils spunlace fabrics, the danger to spreading the oil even more is higher if washed out with soap. Avoid using warm water. Warm water opens the skin pores and may give the remaining urushiol oil more chance to penetrate the skin further.3. Wash any of the materials, gadgets, clothes, shoes, tools and the like that you've worn or used. Remember to wear gloves since the oil from poison ivy plant may still be on them and automatic doors could infect other body parts.During the first exposure to poison ivy, one may not necessarily recognize the symptoms of infection immediately, especially kids. When in doubt, cleansing the itchy part is one good preventive measure. Apart from it, you may top off the affected area with calamine lotion or analgesic cream. Intake of antihistamine could also help in relieving the tingling itchy feeling. If by any chance, the rash has swollen to blisters, NEVER burst the blisters. An open blister can cause infection automatic door and can lead to blood poisoning. If the blister breaks, cover it with sterile bandage then consult your doctor for medical advice to prevent bacterial infection.lsm
